More Than 50 Years of Community Care

Our history is built on compassion, community, and a commitment to serving those in need.

Where Our Story Began

Edmond Mobile Meals began because of a need that was discovered in the community. A group of dedicated neighbors started a telephone ministry to call the homebound residents of Edmond to simply check in and see if they needed anything.

For many of these residents, these callers were the only voice they heard all day and were a source of encouragement. What these dedicated citizens discovered was that the greatest need these homebound individuals had was a hot meal, there were many people, because of their situation, who could not make a nutritious meal for themselves.

The Beginning of Hope

April 22, 1974

With the help of 7 local churches donating $25 each, Edmond Mobile Meals began and delivered six meals. These local churches gave not only of their resources but provided many volunteers and still do to this day. They include:

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
First Presbyterian Church
First United Methodist Church
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church
Peace Lutheran
First Christian Church
Southern Hills Christian Church

One of the founders of the organization and the first director was Carolyn Vance. Carolyn had a heart for serving others, she often said

“This project is a true witness of the miracles that can happen when a community of people who care, combines their efforts and work together in service.”

November 18, 2020

Delivered 1 Millionth meal in Edmond.

Mobile Meals has come a long way since that first day in 1974. We now serve over 300 meals each day and have a volunteer force of over 400 caring citizens.

November 2023

Edmond Mobile Meals becomes the meal source to the Edmond Senior Center for their daily Senior Congregate Lunch program, providing an average of 60 additional meals each weekday.

April 22, 2024

We celebrated our 50th anniversary of serving nourishing meals and providing wellness checks to Edmond’s seniors. Edmond Mobile Meals is now serving over 300 meals each weekday, and in the midst of a full building renovation and kitchen expansion so that we can continue to serve clients without a waiting list. The kitchen expansion will triple the capacity of the number of meals we can provide each day.

September, 2024

Edmond Mobile Meals in partnership with the City of Edmond completes a full building renovation and kitchen expansion. The kitchen capacity has tripled, allowing Edmond Mobile Meals to serve the needs of homebound seniors for decades to come.

Edmond Mobile Meals is a lifeline for our homebound neighbors who cannot prepare a hot meal for themselves. Every day, dedicated volunteers deliver more than just nutritious food, they deliver kindness, compassion, and connection.

For many of the seniors we serve, the meal we provide may be their only meal of the day, and the volunteer at their door may be their only human interaction.
