Edmond, Oklahoma — April 22, 2024 — Edmond Mobile Meals marked a historic milestone on April 22, celebrating 50 years of providing nourishing meals and wellness checks to seniors and homebound residents throughout the Edmond community.

The organization began in 1974 when a group of local neighbors created a telephone ministry to check on homebound residents. The group quickly discovered that one of the greatest needs in the community was access to nutritious, hot meals.

With support from seven local churches, Edmond Mobile Meals delivered its first six meals on April 22, 1974. Five decades later, the organization is serving more than 300 meals each weekday.

The anniversary celebration recognizes generations of volunteers and supporters who have helped make the program possible. From weekly volunteers to community organizations and financial contributors, each has played an important role in the organization's continued growth.

As Edmond Mobile Meals looks toward the next 50 years, the organization remains committed to its original mission: helping elderly and disabled residents maintain independence while providing meaningful daily human connection.

The 50th anniversary is both a celebration of the past and a commitment to the future of senior nutrition and community care in Edmond.
