Volunteers are the true heroes of nonprofit work, and at Edmond Mobile Meals, that truth is evident every single day.

Because of their compassion and commitment, nearly 400 nourishing, thoughtfully prepared meals reach seniors across our community each weekday. This work simply would not be possible without them.

In our kitchen, volunteers prepare meals with care and precision, following strict food safety standards while ensuring each plate is both nutritious and inviting. Their attention to detail reflects something deeper: respect for the individuals we serve.

Once meals are ready, our delivery volunteers step in. They carefully pack insulated bags to keep food warm, then head out across nineteen routes spanning more than 100 square miles. Along the way, they do far more than deliver meals, they build trust. They form meaningful relationships with clients, offering consistency, connection, and often friendship. They are also an essential safety net, serving as our eyes and ears by noticing changes in a client’s well-being and communicating when additional support may be needed.

While meal preparation and delivery are at the heart of our mission, volunteers sustain nearly every aspect of our work. They bake desserts, prepare weekend meals, organize inventory, assist in the office, and support supplemental grocery deliveries. They make friendly visits, assemble furniture, run errands, and brighten days with handwritten notes and birthday gifts. They help with yard clean-up, paint house numbers for safety, and assemble Blizzard Bags for inclement weather.

Others contribute behind the scenes by serving on our Board of Directors, supporting marketing and design efforts, participating in strategic committees, and helping lead special events. Each role, no matter how visible, is essential.

Today, 457 dedicated volunteers serve Edmond Mobile Meals in some capacity. In the past year alone, they completed nearly 8,000 shifts. Kitchen volunteers contributed 3,536 hours, while delivery drivers gave more than 12,000 hours of their time, traveling nearly 47,000 miles throughout Edmond to ensure no neighbor is forgotten.

But beyond the numbers, what matters most is the spirit in which this service is given.

Our volunteers are ambassadors of compassion. They embody the values of neighborly care, dignity, and generosity that define Edmond Mobile Meals. They remind us that meaningful change is built not just on programs, but on people who choose to show up consistently, quietly, and wholeheartedly for others.
